Family fun at Melbourne Festival
Families are always extremely welcome at Melbourne and in recent years have had their own Trail within the Art & Architecture Trail based on a tale from a popular children’s book.
Each year we have a special Family Trail for the young, and the young at heart, based on much loved traditional fairy tales or classic story. The Family Trail and lots of activities for families are included in the £5 Art Trail Guide for the Art & Architecture Trail.
We have “STORY STOPS” where young visitors can have 5 minutes rest and read a book in Melbourne Hall Visitor Centre, Melbourne Hall Carriage Circle, Pool Cottage, The Vicarage Garden and Chantry House Garden. Highlights include our Children’s Garden at Melbourne Vicarage where you can play a game of giant chess or enjoy a perfect picnic and much more. In 2018 children could sing and dance at The Teddy Bears Picnic at 2.30 and at 3.30pm each afternoon join us for a story time on the Vicarage Lawn – in 2018 we helped The Tiger Who Came to Tea celebrate its 50th Birthday”! Artwork by Melbourne Children was on display at Pool Cottage Residential Home in their garden and in Melbourne Fire Station. For hungry young visitors there are children’s lunch boxes and refreshments for sale in aid of Melbourne Schools at Pump House next to Food Court in Church Street.
In the lead up to the Festival Children from Melbourne Infant & Junior Schools and childrens after school groups including Brownies, Rainbows, Beavers, Pilots and The Athenaeum all take part in Festival Workshops led by Festival artists and their work is shown on the Art & Architecture Trail.
